1. China

China has been recognized as the country adapting EVs at the fastest rate. In 2021, there were more than 3 million EVs sold here, which is more than any other country. Furthermore, the market share of EVs in China has been growing rapidly each year, and it doesn’t seem to stop. Plus, China is also leading in the total number of EV chargers in the world. Simply put, China has multiple times more EV chargers than any other country in the world. Plus, the ratio of fast-to-slow chargers is also pretty high. All in all, there were more than 470,000 fast chargers and 677,000 slow chargers in China in 2021. 2022’s statistics haven’t been released yet, but it’s expected that the number would grow higher.

2. the United States

The United States has also been adapting to EVs at a rapid pace. Although the progress of EV charging infrastructure in the US isn’t close to that of China, it’s still remarkable. At the end of 2021, the US had more than 110,000 EV chargers, around 90,000 of them were slow chargers while the remaining 20,000 were fast chargers. Again, even though these numbers aren’t comparable to China’s, it’s still been a massive improvement over the last several years, which is part of the reason why EVs are being adopted so quickly in the US as well.

3. South Korea

Close behind in the third spot is South Korea. According to 2021 statistics, there were more than 115,000 public EV charging stations in the country at the end of the year. Around 90,000 of them were slow chargers, and the remaining 15,000 were fast chargers.

4. The Netherlands

The Netherlands has also been doing great work to increase the adaption rate of electric vehicles throughout the country. And a part of that movement includes installing publicly available EV chargers for easy access.

At the end of 2021, the Netherlands had more than 82,000 publicly available slow EV chargers. While the number of fast chargers is still only around 2,500, it’s better than nothing. Plus, the rising number of slow chargers will eventually lead to the growth of fast chargers as well.

5. France

Another country to pop up on the list of top EV-charger countries is France. According to 2021 statistics, there were around 50,000 slow EV chargers in France while around 4,500 were fast EV chargers.

Again, the number might be drastically less than the top names in the list, but France still makes it in the top 5.
